One of my favorite tips for having a successful week is following routines, and what better way to set your week up for success than starting your week with a great Sunday routine!?
Sunday is the perfect day to hit the reset button, evaluate where you are currently, and what you want to focus on for the upcoming week. It is also a great day to practice self-care and enjoy some quality downtime.
While I practice these habits on Sundays, you can follow this routine on any day that fits best with your schedule. These habits also don’t need to be followed in the exact order they are listed below! Complete them depending on what works best for your personal schedule!
Create Your Weekly To-Do List
Knowing what you hope to accomplish throughout the week can help you get in the right mindset, and a to-do list is a perfect way to ensure you are checking off all those items!
Start by creating a list of everything you want to accomplish throughout the week. From here you are going to;
- Delegate any tasks that can be accomplished by other people.
- Eliminate any tasks that are not urgent or pressing.
- Estimate how long each task is going to take to complete.
Once you have done the three steps as outlined above, add everything up and make sure you have enough time to accomplish it all! If you don’t go back to step 1 and repeat!
This to-do list will be transferred to your planner later in the day.

Write Down Your Weekly Goals
Defining your goals is an important part of planning a successful week. This will provide you with much-needed direction.
Your weekly goals should be small goals that will help you towards your bigger goals for the month or year. Start by writing out each goal. Make sure that they are detailed and include the results you expect to see.
Next, outline all the different steps you will need to take to accomplish these goals. This list can be as long or as short as you need it to be. Personally, I also like to include any resources I will need to help me! This could include reading the material, watching a video, or research that I need to do. All these things should be apart of the to-do list that you created in the to-do list step outlined above.
It is extremely important to write these things down. Many experts say that by writing things down, we are more likely to remember them, which will result in us being more mindful of them throughout the week.
You may even wish to add them to your planner!

Spend Some Time with Your Planner
Planners are an important tool for anyone who is trying to be more productive, achieve their goals, and be mindful of how they are spending their time. Planners can provide so many benefits, and that is why I strongly encourage you to include planning in your Sunday routine!
When sitting down with your planner, consider planning the following;
- Your events, appointments, and meetings.
- Your meal plan for the week.
- Exercise routine.
At this point, I will also begin to create a very basic outline for what I want to accomplish each day of the week from my to-do list.
Be sure to also plan downtime for yourself! Planning too much with no time to relax can result in overwhelm and burnout.
Having a plan for your week will help you spend less time deciding what needs to be accomplished, leaving you more time to be productive and accomplish the tasks.
If you are forgetful like me, this will also help keep you focused so you don’t forget anything!

My planner of choice is the Bullet Journal method and is the system I highly recommend everyone try at least once! Curious to know more about the Bullet Journal method? Be sure to check out my post that will get you started with your first Bullet Journal!

Complete as Much Household Work as You Can
Sundays are a great time to accomplish all your household chores and tasks. This will give you more time during the week to focus on your goals and being productive.
The things you need to do will depend on your circumstance, but a great place to start is;
- Doing your weekly grocery shop! Grocery shopping is extremely time-consuming, and the more times you must run to the grocery store during the week, the more time you are wasting. The secret is to create a meal plan, a shopping list, and to complete all your shopping at once! (This does not include stopping at the store because you ran out of milk!)
- Wash all your laundry! By keeping all your clothes clean, you will hopefully spend less time deciding what to wear every day! Some people take it a step further and will plan out all their outfits for a week. Try this out if you find yourself wasting a lot of time in the morning deciding what you want to wear.
- Tidy up your space! Clutter is distracting, and a mess will leave you feeling uneasy. Spend time cleaning up your space so that you can focus!
Do Some Much-Needed Self Care
Whether this is to relax, or simply because it is necessary, completing your self-care routine for the week on Sundays is a great way to hit the refresh button!
Some self-care activities could include;
- Using a face mask.
- Painting your nails!
- Washing your makeup brushes.
- Have a bubble bath.
- Do a hair mask.
Set aside the time for yourself and enjoy it!
Get Active!
Your Sunday routine should definitely include you getting active! This can be as simple as going outside for a bike ride, doing thirty minutes of yoga, or even going rock climbing! Whatever form of physical activity you prefer, it is important as it will help you get your week started off on the right.
This is especially important if you find yourself too pressed for time during the week to get to the gym, or to implement any kind of workout routine!

Relax with Your Favorite Book, Movie or Podcast!
Finish your Sunday routine off right with your favorite book, movie or podcast! An important step to take when trying to focus on productivity is to ensure you are allowing yourself some downtime as well! This will help avoid burnout.
So, sit down and read your book of the moment, watch a no-nonsense movie, or listen to an inspiring podcast! This is sure to leave you feeling refreshed and ready to take on anything the week can throw at you!
Final Note
If you get in the habit of doing all this stuff in your Sunday routine, you are sure to have a more successful week! Be sure to add anything to your specific routine as it relates to your circumstance!
