Did you know that your Bullet Journal can help you be more productive and intentional with the limited time that you have?
Alright, well you likely knew that, but are you actually using your Bullet Journal layouts to achieve high levels of productivity?
There are a few different planning elements that go into Bullet Journals. You likely have a monthly layout that you use to plan out your appointments, important dates, events, etc. Then, you probably have your weekly layout where you plan much more in depth. This could include meal plans, time blocking your tasks, etc.
But, what if you planned your month as in-depth as you plan your weeks?
And, what if you planned your month with a focus on productivity?
For some, planning with that level of detail so far in advance could be a little bit scary. What if things change? What if something pops up that you weren’t expecting?
All of these things could happen, but they can also happen to you in the week as well.
By understanding how monthly planning can better serve you, you can begin to harness the power of it to plan a month where you are going to take action, achieve your goals and tasks, and be your most productive self.
The Benefits Of Monthly Planning
Monthly planning really has two benefits.
- It allows you to see ahead.
There is something about looking at the month to come and acknowledging the important events, deadlines, celebrations, etc. You are able to get a better idea of what is coming so that you can prepare yourself for it, emotionally and mentally.
- It allows you to get ahead.
If you are like me and struggle with procrastination, then monthly planning could be really beneficial. It will help you to reduce stress, overwhelm, and burnout.
While each of these benefits are equally important, these things alone don’t add up to being more productive.
To work towards being more productive, a much more comprehensive plan will help you achieve your desired results.
Creating A Monthly Bullet Journal Layout That Promotes Productivity
While this certainly may not apply to you every month of your life, there are going to be months where you are completely maxed out. It is these times where using a productivity-focused monthly layout may be exactly what you need to help you push through and accomplish everything in stride.
When I am creating my monthly layouts where I need to be extremely productive, I like to focus on three things.
1. Understanding What I Need For The Month To Be Successful
By understanding what I need to be successful, the more success I find I get from my monthly layout.
For example, if I am working on a massive project with a deadline during the month, a daily routine might help me ensure I am dedicating the time that the project requires.
Or, if I am juggling a lot, but I know my self-care is going to help me stay calm and collected, a habit tracker might help to remind me to take 30 minutes for myself each day. This could be a daily walk or reading a book for 30 minutes in the morning with my coffee.
2. Have A Place To Break It All Down
If you are a list-maker like me, it is going to be important to provide yourself the space to break things down.
Personally, I love to break all of my tasks and goals down into bite-sized manageable chunks. My motivation to be productive comes from checking things off a to-do list. The further I break tasks down, the more things I can check off, and the more motivation I have.
By leaving ample space to break things down like this, I am able to thoroughly plan out my month and provide myself a source of motivation.
3. Space To Be Flexible
Sometimes things take a lot longer than I anticipate. Other times, things pop up that I wasn’t expecting.
Unfortunately, we can’t plan every aspect of our life, because a lot of life is unpredictable.
Leaving space to be flexible on my monthly layout allows me to move things around as I need to depending on what else pops up on my schedule.
My Productivity Focused Monthly Bullet Journal Layout
After using my Bullet Journal for nearly two years, there was one layout I found myself going back to time and time again. This is my productivity-focused monthly bullet journal layout.
I like to call this my productivity dashboard.
One of my favorite things about this layout is how easily it can be customized to suit the different things I currently have going on in life. I can modify the layout to be focused on routines, habits, to-do lists, goals, and more! It is the ability to customize the layout so easily that makes this the perfect layout for planning a productive month for yourself.
How Will This Layout Help You Be More Productive?
- See everything at a glance. The dashboard element of this layout allows you to see everything at a glance without taking up too much space. This will help you see everything clearly so that you can avoid overwhelm.
- Break it all down. This layout will work especially well if you are a list maker. There is ample space to break down all of your different tasks and to-do lists.
- Focus on each important area of your life. Part of planning a productive month is to make sure you are leaving nothing out. Whatever is taking up your time and energy can go on this layout. This could include things like cooking, cleaning, self-care, etc.
How You Can Learn Everything You Need To Know About This Layout
Part of what makes this layout so effective is not just the layout itself, but the planning strategy behind it. And rather than make a really long blog post, I decided to create a small, free guide that not only shows you how to make the layout, but how to actually plan with it too!
The free guide is a PDF download that will be delivered straight to your inbox! Save it to your computer or your cloud service, and reference it anytime you have a really busy month coming up that you want to be prepared for!

A Quick Sneak Peek At The Layout
Here is a sneak peek of the layout that I am talking about!
As you can see, this monthly bullet journal layout is different to your traditional, calendar-style layout. While those definitely have a place in my own journal, they do not give me the space that I need to plan as in-depth as sometimes required.
This minimalist layout provides ample space to include a plan for every important aspect of your life and can be easily customized to suit your current needs.
I have seen so much personal success from using this layout, and I hope that you will too! If you want to grab the full guide that walks you through the layout step by step, click here!
